Protecting LGBTQ2+ Youth recognized by National Orgs: HRC

Updated: Sep 19, 2018

Not FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. This one's for the eyes of parents and educators, and those speculating that gender non-conformity is trendy or phase-related, this one's for you:

A 'REAL NEWS' piece worthy of quoting, worthy of sharing, released today by the Human Rights Commission on behalf of tens of thousands of licensed medical and mental health care professionals, educators, and advocates.

"..research has clearly shown that these practices (of Conversion Therapy) pose devastating health risks for LGBTQ young people such as depression, decreased self-esteem, substance abuse, homelessness, and even suicidal behaviour. The harmful practice is condemned by every major medical and mental health organization, including the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and American Medical Association.'

As a parent, I hope more medically and scientifically supported documents like this will continue to drown out the misinformation that perpetuates hatred and ignorance. And that acceptance will supercede tolerance.

As always, with hope for continued change towards a more inclusive future...

Here's the letter protecting Gender Non-Conforming and Trans Youth, released today.

We, as national organizations representing tens of thousands of licensed medical and mental health care professionals, educators, and advocates, come together to express our professional and scientific consensus on the impropriety, inefficacy, and detriments of practices that seek to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, commonly referred to as “conversion therapy.”

Here's the posting from Human Rights Commission.
