My Rainbow is a featured book in Simply Good Form's 2021 Inclusive School Reads Nova Scotia event. Part 1 of 4 conversations with DeShanna Neal as we talk about trans youth inclusion, gender identity and breaking down stigma. Gender Journey with Author Theresa Thorn and Cynthia Sweeney
What is gender identity? What is gender non-binary? And why should we be celebrating gender identity in schools with children? Simply Good Form's Cynthia Sweeney talks with Author Theresa Thorn about her children's book about gender identity, 'It Feels Good To Be Yourself' and the importance of inclusive books in early childhood education. This short interview is part of a series leading up to the 2020 Inclusive Schools Read Nova Scotia event that took place in February 2020. "It Feels Good To Be Yourself' was our feature book for 2020 and we were thrilled to chat coast-to-coast and mom-to-mom about trans youth and inclusion.
Trans Accessibility and COVID 19
Out of school and into the home. Losing your support teams and/or access to healthcare. Drug shortages?... These are just a few of the topics Isaac talks about this week as they look at the impacts COVID-19 is having on the trans and non-binary community. Hormone shortages are just one of these impacts. What does this mean? What if there were a shortage of insulin? What would happen and what would our reaction be? You don't have to be in menopause or puberty to know the havoc hormonal imbalances wreak on the body. This is just one piece of the challenges facing our trans and non-binary community. Let's talk about it. #inclusionmatters
Annus Mirabilis: Light in a Pandemic and... 'it could have been worse?'
There are times in our lives where everything just seems to be on fire. Do we let it all just burn to the ground and rebuild? Sometimes we don't have a choice. I had the opportunity to share some of my gender journey navigating supporting our child's gender transition, with professionals from coast-to-coast. Through the fire and flames a pandemic brought our family a little light. This is a piece of our journey on finding the light through the darkness and strength in family. It is an abbreviated version of a 20 minute presentation delivered to members of ShiftEd Academy Coterie in June 2020.
